Introduction:

The Railway Board has announced extra charges, in addition to the normal sleeper class fare, will be collected from the passengers.

The circular states that the extra charges would comprise superfast charges of 730 and an additional charge of 20.

For a short trip between two States, from Chennai to Bengaluru, the sleeper class fare is around 260, with the price increasing based on the number of kilometres.

The industry will be at a big loss if workers don't return."

In the last three days, about 10.000 migrants from Odisha have boarded special trains and .more than a lakh have travelled in private buses to their natives in Odisha.
The passengers have to be screened by the sending States and only those found asymptomatic would be allowed to travel.

The Indian Railways on May 1, 2020, began operating Shramik Special trains to transport migrant workers, tourists, pilgrims, students and others, who were stranded due to the sudden nationwide lockdown effective March 22, back to their home States.

The decision follows revised guidelines by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) allowing the movement of such people by railways. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, all passenger train services.

Punjab’s first Shramik Express with 1,188 migrants heads for Jharkhand:


The first Shramik Express train from Punjab with 1,188 migrants workers on board left Jalandhar railway station for Daltonganj in Jharkhand on Tuesday afternoon, Jalandhar police commissioner, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said.
At Jalandhar railway station, the migrants were emotional and excited as they were returning to their native places amid the coronavirus pandemic. The migrants had registered themselves on a Punjab government portal to facilitate their travel. The train will make a non-stop journey.
Police commissioner Bhullar said that the medical teams began screening the travellers since morning at three different places including Khalsa School, Nakodar Road and Guru Nanak Dev University regional campus. The passengers were then brought to the railway station in the 20 buses and boarded on the train while maintaining social distancing.

The 6 'Shramik' trains will run from Lingampally to Hatia, Nasik to Lucknow, Aluva to Bhubaneswar, Nasik to Bhopal, Jaipur to Patna and Kota to Hatia.

New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs on Friday allowed the movement of migrant workers, tourists, students and other persons stranded at different places due to lockdown, by special trains to be operated by the Ministry of Railways.

The decision was taken two days after the government approved their movement through buses to transport them from one state to another. The order came as the extended lockdown is slated to end on May 3.
